Galta Shrine – The holy pilgrimage site situated in the beautiful valley of east side hill of Jaipur city. The pre-historic Hindu pilgrimage complex was built by Diwan Rao kriparam in the 18th century. Hindu saint Galav Rishi spent his whole life in search of truth, and thereafter, this place is known as Galtaji.
Hindu pilgrims visit the temple during the full moon to take bath in the Galta-Kund, the holy water tank, which never dries. The Holy bath on the occasion of Makar Sankranti in January month has special importance. It is said that the source of water is unknown and the holy Galta kund (water tank) never dries.
The complex is also known as Monkey Temple since it is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the monkey god.
A cobbled pathway passes through the beautiful Galta valley which connects the main Galta Temple complex with the Sun Temple situated at the top of the hill. It is said that the first ray of sun used to hit the Sun temple first before entering the city which was limited till the hill in the old times.
